Ever since I saw the backyard movie nights that Donna over at Party Wishes, puts on for her neighborhood it has been top on my list of things I would love to do at the house. I am all about community and neighborhood "funness". My husband often laughs at me about all me grand ideas. Like the time I thought I could make cinnamon rolls for our entire condo complex, and I am often told I was born in the wrong era. So maybe it is not the world were door to door sales man need a place to rest their weary legs for the night, or carolers are invited in for hot cocoa anymore, but dang it can't I try!?!
I honestly thought with the prices of everything I would need to do backyard movie nights that it would be awhile (year or so) until I could do them, but once again the stars have aligned for me to bring to fruition another one of my ideas sooner than I thought possible. Which usually means that the husband has helped make another one of my dreams possible. Thanks Honey! He brought home an older projector that they no longer use at work and we tested it out down stairs in the basement and it worked great. Then we hooked up some computer speakers to his laptop to see how well they would work outside and they did pretty good. So on this last Saturday I went out and bought some PVC pipe and some blackout fabric and went to work making a screen for the backyard. I finished it right before my brother-in-laws birthday bash, and we had movie night testing that evening.
Everything worked great!
We all had fun watching the Season premiere of Wipe Out in the backyard to end the evening.
I have been so excited about being able to do Neighborhood Movie Nights that I have already made the flyers. So I am sure I will have more movie night fun to share in the future.
*If there is a big interest in how I made the screen I will be more than happy to post a tutorial. Just leave a comment letting me know if you would be interested in that.
What a great idea! Unfortunately, we do not have ANY neighbors who would be interested. There are not many younger families in the area. I think I MAY just do it for ourselves though!
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling idea! You are so creative - I love seeing your blog.
ReplyDeleteThese are so much fun! We a tradition to do one for Halloween! We usually have all types of gooey "scary" treats! The kids & adults both love it!!
ReplyDeleteI also meant to tell you to check out my friend Brittany's blog (just link from my blog). It is called Britt's Broadcast. If you go down about 2 or 3 posts you will see her latest party. She does darling parties like you and I thought you might like to see.
ReplyDeleteI love this! One of the downsides to living in WA though is that it doesn't get dark until after 10...way too late for the younger kids!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is amazing! How beautiful! I feel the same way as you, born in the wrong era. I am in the same boat as thete05 though, WA doesnt get dark til super late. BUT, this get up would be cool for block parties which my neighborhood lives for! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI would love, love, love a tutorial on how to make the screen! What a fun idea - thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to know how you made the flyers! We are hosting our first movie night next month in our neighborhood...a YEAR after this post! But just found the flyer! So cute!
ReplyDeleteJen- I designed the flyer. I actually do not have that file anymore but have a different one I designed this year. If you would like me to design something for you I would be more than happy to. Then you can take the file and print it at Kinkos etc. I will be out of town for a week as of tomorrow, but would be able to help you when I get back. Just email me if you are interested hutchingsjill@gmail.com. Thanks for visiting!
